The Environmental chemistry and environmental risk assessment research unit focuses its research activities on issues related to environmental impacts due to contamination, climate change and natural hazards. The main research activities within the group focus on the analytical determination of pollutants in environmental matrices and on the study of the behaviour of emerging pollutants in sewage treatment plants. Moreover, the research group works on the development of approaches and tools for human health and ecological risk assessment, of contaminants’ fate and transport modelling, and on the implementation of risk-based Decision Support Systems for the assessment and management of environmental resources. Special attention is devoted to exploit in these fields the potentialities of Decision Analysis, Geographic Information Systems, methods for uncertainty and sensitivity analysis.
